How To Get Traffic To Your Online Business

Why You Should Care About Getting Traffic To Your Website

It's all well and good having a nice, pretty website. But it's almost made redundant if it's not getting any traffic throughput.

One of the biggest struggles when it comes to owning a website is being able to drive people through to your website so that you can grow awareness around your brand, product and/or service and grow sales and increase engagement.

There are many different ways to drive traffic through to your website. Through both organic (non-paid) and non-organic (paid) means.

Today we are going to take a look at the different strategies to getting people to land on your website. After all, the more people that land on your website, the more people who learn about your products and services.

Use Search Engine Optimisation For Organic Traffic

Search Engine Optimisation or 'SEO' as it is more commonly known, is the science behind optimizing your website's structure, content, organization and resources to start rising the ranking in the world's most-used search engines.

It is one of the most popular organic strategies behind driving users to your website. However, it does take a lot of time and commitment both at the start and ongoing.

Search engines and their algorithm preferences are constantly changing so it's a dynamic strategy but an effective one nevertheless.

Check out this blog where I discuss The Importance Of SEO And It’s Benefits

PPC (Pay Per Click) Adverts

As the name might suggest, this is one of the non-organic strategies we're going to be looking at today. It's essentially where you are charged for each click you get on a link displayed in a list of search engine results. And although this may seem straightforward, if it's not done correctly, it can be a very easy way to lose money if not done correctly.

For each click you're going to pay for, you want the person clicking on the link to know what they are clicking through to. After all, if your advert is misleading in any way, they will simply click through and then go off your website.

Social Media Advertising

This is another non-organic way of driving traffic through to your website but differs from PPC campaigns. This is because if you're paying for an advert on social media, it doesn't show based on search results.

Instead, due to the nature of the user information that social networks provide, it allows you a more targeted approach based on a range of demographics. This in a way means your advertising campaigns can be a lot more cost-effective and targeted.

For example, if you're a business based in the Midlands, and you want to only target people in the Midlands between the ages of 20 and 60, you can target such an audience through the power of advertising that social networks such as Instagram and Facebook allow you to.

Influencer Marketing

This is another way of driving attention and eyes to your online business that has emerged as a result of social media. Essentially, influencer marketing utilises the power and influence that prolific social media users have over their followers.

Utilising their influence means that they can promote brands and/or products. Which is particularly effective if their niche/cause is close to what your business and brand stands for.

Typically the costs are set up in one of two ways. You will either pay per post that they advertise on your behalf. Or, you will pay for the amount of traffic and sales that they eventually drive to your website. Take a look here to read Should You Use Influencer Marketing

Use Push Notifications To Drive Traffic

Push notifications are something you probably receive on a daily basis through to your smartphone or desktop. These notifications are designed in such a way to advertise a quick, important, short and concise message. Particularly effective when advertising flash sales or limited-time promotions.

These are also useful in driving traffic directly to your website through the notification itself to a designated landing page on your website. Where it is then your aim to convert that landing visitor into a sale for your business.

Discover Email Marketing

Email marketing has for a while been one of the most effective and powerful ways to drive visitors to your website and to convert these into sales. The only requirements for this organic method is to get yourself an engaging email list. Which can be done through a few ways.

Having a landing page whereby users are incentivised to provide their email addresses in return for a free trial.

Providing a free report which solves a problem for your audience.

Once you start building your list the next thing to do is nuture your leads and contine top help them along your customer journey.
