3 Things To Consider Before Building A Business Website

Building a website for your small business can be challenging.

Especially when it comes to all of the technical things that you have to consider.

Despite this, it is important that you have a website for your business as it is the only online asset that you have full control over.

When set up correctly it is also the best place for you to send your potential customers to.

Your website will have more information about the reasons why someone should use your business.

If you haven't got a website right now but are considering having a website built for your small business to improve your online marketing.

Make sure you ask these three questions first, so you end up with an online asset that proves useful for your business.

3 Questions To Ask Before Building A Website

domain name registration

Is the website domain name registered in your name or your business name?

If you did not pay for the domain name then whose details are on the registration?

Is the domain name registered to your own address or your business address?

It is important that you have the answers to the above questions especially if your domain name is your business name as well.

You may have paid for branded products for your company, you may even as gone as far as signwriting your company vehicles.

Think of the consequences to your business if you or the person who registered your domain name forgot to renew it.

Your business would suffer as a result.

More so if you had spent a lot of time building up your organic traffic from the search engines.

SITE HOSTING

Where is your website hosted?

Is the hosting taken care of by your web designer or a third party?

Who paid for your hosting?

Do you have login details for the hosting provider?

Will you have a copy of your website in the cloud or on a disc?

Hosting is how your website is stored waiting to be called upon to be seen by the world.

You may have started getting a lot of organic website visits from search engines, you may even have started to see a return on your investment.

So you need to consider  the consequences to your business if your website suddenly disappeared overnight.

If you have the answers to the above questions it may save you pain in the long run.

CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OR CMS for short

Will you have access to the CMS of your website?

Will you be able to log in and make amendments to your content in real-time?

If someone else is building the site, will you have to pay for each amendment?

Content management means that you the customer can make changes to your website to suit your own needs.

Access in this way means that you are free to add products, promotions and amendments as often as you want to without limitations.

If you have to pay every time you want to make a small amendment that could work out to be expensive.

There is more to building a website than just the cost

There are a lot of considerations to make before you start with this type of project.

Make sure that the three questions in this article are at the front of your mind when your next discussing your web design project.

At least get some additional knowledge so you make the right decision for now and the future when it comes to having your website built.
