Should you take a break from social media during holiday season

Take a break from social media posting during your holidays!

Is that something that you should even consider?

It's almost holiday season, do you feel like you can't take your foot off the marketing treadmill and take a break from social media?

Will you feel guilty when you're watching the queens speech because you didn't post that day?

Well, I spotted this very same question today so decided to do a video about it.

You can check it out on the video above, or you can read the transcription below.

Should you take a break over Christmas and neglect your social media? - Transcription

The reason I came on  today, I spotted a post earlier on LinkedIn,  and it was one of my good friends asking her audience what they were going to do about their social media during Christmas,?

You know, were they going to put a plan in place? Or were they going to neglect it, and then come back after Christmas feeling guilty?

It kind of got me thinking really. I did put a response in there. But what I'd say to you is, don't feel guilty about not posting on social media during Christmas.

Now, you might be thinking, why is Nigel  saying that Nigel says market market yourself market yourself,  listen, you gotta have a break.

You have got to have a mental downtime and you stressing over social media while you're tucking into your sprouts on Christmas Day!

It ain't doing you or your family or the people around you any good?

Yes, by all means, if you can create some content in advance and have it scheduled to go out, then do it.

But have the break.

You deserve the break the year we've all had, you deserve the break?

I know I'm gonna be taking a break. Come the 24th I'm downing tools.

I'll be back when I'm back.

You'll know I'm back because you'll see me but my world is not going to change if I don't post during Christmas.

But for those of you that feel that you need to get on with it. I'm not saying don't do it. But you know, be mindful that you need some downtime, you need some time to gather your mental strength and your mental thoughts.

One thing that you could do, though, and you know, if you are building your business using social media, nothing wrong with that.

But you are at the mercy of social media, which is owned by other people, companies, they want to know about data, they've got algorithms which say, that if you do this, and you don't do that, then you don't get this.

Great if it's working for you, but what you need to really focus on, I think for 2022 is an online asset that will bring you leads and inquiries, whether you're posting on social media or not.

And what I'm talking about is a website, yes, make sure your website is generating new inquiries, converting leads into prospects.

You know, there's some simple things that you can do to achieve that. Search Engine Optimization. You know, by optimising your blog content,  your website content that can generate enquiries for you, whether you're posting on social media or not.

Things like internal linking, you know, if you're someone who's got 20,  30, 40, or more blog posts, and they aren't internally linked, then you're missing out on a huge trick, because that will help Google to find more of your content.

You know, I'm probably talking bloody French to some of you right now. Speak to your webmaster, you got someone building your website speak to them about some of the things that you can do to optimise your website so that you're not reliant then on having to post on social media every day if you don't want to, if you want to do it.

But by optimising that asset, that online asset that you own, remember, you own your website, Mark Z owns Facebook. by optimising that asset.

It just ensures that it doesn't matter what you do. You can take a week off two weeks a month, even a year, and you're still generate enquiries to your business.

If you want to know more about that. I'm not going to tell you now because it's Christmas soon. I'm not working after 24th But feel free to reach out in the new year.
