The value that online directories bring
If you’re struggling to grow your business in terms of its reach and traffic through to your website. Alongside paid adverts and social media campaigns, you may want to try listing your business on online directories.
The name pretty much explains the functions that these sites play. They will list your businesses website alongside other businesses websites. They will typically have your business underneath a certain category so if someone does click on the link through to your website, that they have been searching for a business rather than clicking at random.
This guarantees that you’ll only have relevant traffic coming through from these online directories. Having your website listed on multiple online directories can also help.
How does it help with SEO?
You may think that listing your website on a directory won’t have any part to play in terms of your SEO strategy. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The reason why? Backlinks.
Backlinking is one of the most crucial parts of any SEO strategy. Essentially backlinking is people coming through to your website from another website. The more prominent and authoritative the source of the link, the better. Websites are scored on this through 2 scores, DA or Domain Authority and PA or Page Authority.
If you type a few websites of online directories into any online DA scorer, you’ll most likely notice 2 different scores. They are ranked from 0 to 100. The higher, the better. And so the higher the directory scores the more value it’s going to bring to your website.
The reason that search engines value backlinking so much is that if you have backlinks from a few high ranking sources. This points out to the search engine that your site is credible and thus will begin to start moving you up the rankings as well as increasing your DA score as well. This can then eventually lead your site to be in the position where you can start backlinking to other websites also.
Which directories should I go for?
With online directories being so high in demand there is an abundance of options to choose from. Some free, some paid. Some popular, some not. However, to save you time scouring the internet what I’ve done is below put together a link that provides you with a list of all the directories in the UK that you can currently list your business on.
Some of these you may notice and some may be new. However, my advice is that if you aren’t already to get your website listed on these online directories. It doesn’t cause any harm at all and will help bolden and strengthen your SEO and take it to the next level.
All you need to do is download the spreadsheet, make a copy for yourself and then click on each company and register your business, ensuring that the details you submit exactly match the details on your website.
Make sure that the NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) matches exactly
Will it take long to submit your website to the online directories?
It will take you about 5-10 minutes to submit yourself to each directory, I would advise creating an additional email to receive your responses from the above companies, so the information is all in one place.
You will more than likely have to go through a verification process, which may involve you waiting for an email from the company to confirm that you are real.
And in some cases, you may have to speak to an adviser.
There are some companies who will look after your citation submissions for you and if you feel like you will not have the time to do this then it may be worth getting in touch with them to see if they can help you instead.
Both of these companies will help you build your citations listing for a small monthly fee.
I hope this has helped you in understanding why online directories are important for your online foundation, and if you have any questions please get in touch.
