As sometimes it can feel like you're swimming against the current and that when you're looking for support, to market your small business there isn't any. However, that couldn't be further from the case.

Analytics - this is a great way to not only understand the behaviour of your consumers but also your website. It allows you to break down the customer journey and gain valuable insights. If you don't have analytics set up you're missing out on a treasure trove of both information and data. You aren't able to see the reason why customers are and aren't buying from you. From what pages they're bouncing off the most.

Understand how well your email marketing is doing - email marketing is an incredibly powerful way of marketing your business, promotions, services and products. Despite in the introduction of other ways of marketing such as paid ad's and social media, the art of email marketing has stood the test of the time and is still one of the most powerful ways to market your business.

There are free support tools such as Mailchimp that allow you to keep an eye on how your campaign has performed including how many emails were opened and in what time frame.

It is also very important what financial support tools you will use in your business to take payments from customers.

There are a multitude of payment providers online, like Stripe, Paypal and numerous others.

I personally use Pockit for all of my online transactions as it provides a buffer between my bank and the internet.

The big benefit is that I don't have to provide my bank details for any online payments.

Ensure that the message is clear

  • Ensure that the message that you're trying to get across to your audience is clear and concise. The last thing you want to notice after an email marketing campaign has been launched or a blog that has been live for a week is that it is full of grammatical errors and it just seems like you've been waffling on and not quite got to the point. Grammarly is a free support tool that allows you to check your grammar, spelling and structure before you post something.

  • Find out which forms are working on your site and which aren't. OptinMonster is a great way of A/B testing forms on your site. A/B testing is a hugely valuable strategy of testing assets on your website before making a decision. For example, you can test two different formats/styles of forms on your website.   • Offer more customer service channels - it's widely known that consumers want an answer sooner rather than later. Giving them a turnaround of 3 to 5 working days can frustrate them. Having a facility such as Live Chat on your website allows you to respond to customers queries in real-time. Meaning that they will have their query answered there and then so they can then go on to make a decision..
